Consider the lowly olive bucket… galvanized metal strips woven into a large receptacle for savory olives, gathered in far flung fields from Greece to Turkey, boasting the patina that comes from years of lying forgotten and neglected.
I came across one of these beautiful and useful containers a few months ago and fell in love immediately. Generously proportioned, my olive bucket is big enough to hold a large flowering plant or a tabletop Christmas tree.
Perhaps I’ll use it indoors to corral magazines, toilet paper, or kindling on the hearth. The default use, of course, would be for trash. I doubt, however, that I will ever use it as God intended, to clean and store olives.
